What Is a Smile Makeover and How Much Will It Cost?
What is a smile makeover you ask? A smile makeover usually refers to enhancing one’s smile so that it’s more desirable. It could involve various aspects of one’s smile: teeth, gums , lips and their position when smiling as well as facial lines and contours.
Teeth: could be their shape, positioning or their shade.
Shape – some teeth are small, some are narrow, while others are large or round. Some have uneven edges either naturally or due to wear/clenching/grinding/acid erosion/etc.
Positioning – spaces between teeth could be desired by some while unwanted by others. Sometimes teeth are ill-positioned meaning that they’re rotated or not aligned, aka crooked. sometimes they’re flaring out too much while in other cases could be flared too far in and not supporting the lips much.
Shade – discoloration being natural (some teeth are naturally more yellow) or induced (tetracycline staining from childhood or effect of trauma on certain teeth) or stained teeth (due to smoking or drinking colored drinks such as red wine or coffee/tea) could make one’s smile less desirable.
Gums: showing too much gum or too little gum when smiling, or having dark gums (naturally or due to excessive smoking), or even worse, having unhealthy red inflamed gums could be quite unpleasant, not to mention a potential health threat to one’s body. Sometimes just uneven appearance of gums around front teeth due to growth issues could affect one’s smile as well.
Zoom! Whitening, then Porcelain Veneers were placed on upper 8 teeth.
Lips: fullness or lack thereof in the lips, position of the lips and the consequent amount of gums showing could definitely affect the aesthetics of a smile.
Facial lines and contours: deep grooves around the mouth/laugh lines, smokers lines around the lips, scrunching of the nose causing bunny lines could also affect the aesthetics of a smile.
Any and all of the above-mentioned factors could have a role in one’s smile. And everyone would require a different approach and treatment. A smile makeover could be as easy as whitening the teeth in one case (a few hundred dollars) while in another be several veneers/crowns (a few thousand) to Botox and filler treatments (a few hundred) that needs up-keeping to surgical approaches to change the jaw position or lip position (a few thousand). There is always something that can be done to improve one’s perception of their smile, however, the important thing is to have realistic expectations for the treatments accepted. When you feel that you have a beautiful smile, you will smile more and will feel more confident which translates into satisfaction and happiness.
